A major quality in being an effective leader is to ask questions. Ask questions of your employees, since they are involved in day-to-day operations and can likely provide you with the best feedback to help you lead effectively. People will respect you for asking and valuing their opinion.

Encourage open and honest conversation with employees. At REB we promote an ‘open door’ policy. I find that when employees feel comfortable communicating with you, it produces an environment where fresh ideas and process improvement flourishes.

As a leader, you must also be consistent and dependable. Treat all employees with the same degree of professionalism and respect. This will give the chance to those around you to step up as leaders as well. Becoming an effective leader and encouraging others to lead will undoubtedly pave the way for your company to thrive.
